So the skiing season is coming to an end and the cross-trainer at the gym simply isn’t filling the void.

Here at INIKA we’ve devised a list of the new trends in fitness for 2011:

  1. Age specific programs: Exercise programs can be tailored to a precise age group for a more focused result.
  2. Small fitness groups: You will be able to have more observation and attention from your instructor and perhaps feel more comfortable with less people.
  3. Support through technology: Twitter, Facebook, youtube and all the fitness apps out there form a supportive network for those getting fit.
  4. A focus on stress-reduction through fitness: Having balance is essential in any exercise program. Such things as bikram yoga allow time for meditation. Also, many gyms are encouraging patrons to see wellness coaches.

Just like fashion, fitness trends are always repeating themselves. The most important thing is to find what works best for you, especially seeming most of us hardly have time to hit the gym as it is.

xx

Bikram Yoga

As someone who regards physical activity as the 20-metre walk from my office to the café, starting bikram yoga was definitely jumping into the deep end.

On the advice of my sister in law, who had bravely stuck out all her sessions, I focused on my breathing as I entered the 38-degree room. I got my zen on as a relaxed into the savasana (total relaxation pose). However was shortly startled by the bright fluorescent lights igniting and my Romanian teacher, in the essence of an auctioneer, crowding the room with strict instructions.

Five minutes later and I felt like a dehydrated grape-turn-sultana-I was beyond breaking a sweat. I contorted my body into the strangest shapes imaginable but still looked like a tangled coat hanger next to the more experienced ‘yoginis’.

45 minutes later and only halfway through the session, I started to honestly believe I was going to die.

Finally, one hour in, we started the floor poses. My throbbing head felt slightly better closer to ground level and surprisingly I could feel my body stretching further than previously imagined.

The final savasana, which ended the class, flooded me with a wave of relief and exhaustion. I HAD SURVIVED (without passing out or throwing up).

For the rest of the day I felt wonderful, not even a double shot capp could have given me this much energy and concentration.

I raved about it to all my friends and even coaxed some of them into signing up. To read more about the benefits of bikram yoga click here.

So everyone has one problem or another with their skin.

If you want to try something natural and uncomplicated for your skin it might be time to give goat’s milk soap a go.  The soap contains nourishing vitamin A, amino acids and proteins and the pH level is similar to that of our skin, which means its gentle. To put it simply here are the benefits:

  • · It’s perfect to use as a first soap for babies
  • · You can use it on all skin types (yes, even oily)
  • · It can help with skin problems such as eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis

Just like INIKA most goat’s milk soaps don’t contain all the bad stuff like sulphates, parabens, petrochemicals etc. You can even use it to wash your face or remove makeup.
