Some of you will be thrilled to know that bright colours have made a comeback for summer 2011/12- some of you will be less then thrilled.

Don’t fret if you’re one of those girls whose wardrobe is more earthy, neutral and black than the colour of fruit salad.

The new brights for the upcoming season look perfect paired with neutral tones.

Here’s how you can let a little colour in:

1. Accessories

Take a look at your handbag. How long have you had it for? If you’re like most of us your handbag is probably looking a little worse for wear. It’s time to invest in a new companion.

We love Sportsgirl’s new bags; try something like this, which has both natural and bright colours. Trust us- it will match almost everything!

2. Shoes

Paired with the right earthy dress from last season, bright kicks will look amazing (and make you look more tanned!). These ones are called Sunshine and are from Whittner.

3. Eyes

Keep a pale lip and apply INIKA’s Mango Mineral Eyeshadow. Either apply as it is or mix it with primer for a cream eyeshadow. We are so excited for everyone to love this colour as much as we do!

Here at INIKA HQ we are loving what we've seen at New York Fashion Week.

There's so much poptastic, delicious candy colours it looks like a homage to Willy Wonka.

Oyster Magazine described the scene in a super kawaii haiku

"pop candy colours
julia, karlie and lindsey
the men had long hair
spring hits, simple bits
bleeker will be slammed once more
will he do dior?"

We are so excited to brighten up our office with these new neon colours and try new looks with the inika range (especially our eyeshadows!!!)

Stay tuned to see how we transform the latest summer trends into INIKA looks that you can do!

What’s new in fitness?

So the skiing season is coming to an end and the cross-trainer at the gym simply isn’t filling the void.

Here at INIKA we’ve devised a list of the new trends in fitness for 2011:

  1. Age specific programs: Exercise programs can be tailored to a precise age group for a more focused result.
  2. Small fitness groups: You will be able to have more observation and attention from your instructor and perhaps feel more comfortable with less people.
  3. Support through technology: Twitter, Facebook, youtube and all the fitness apps out there form a supportive network for those getting fit.
  4. A focus on stress-reduction through fitness: Having balance is essential in any exercise program. Such things as bikram yoga allow time for meditation. Also, many gyms are encouraging patrons to see wellness coaches.

Just like fashion, fitness trends are always repeating themselves. The most important thing is to find what works best for you, especially seeming most of us hardly have time to hit the gym as it is.

xx

Pure Primer

So we decided to devise a list of pro and cons about makeup primers. But then we stumbled across a slight glitch in our plans- there are no cons!

A lot of people don’t know why they should use a primer. A lot of people think they don’t have enough time to use primer, or that it’s not necessary. In reality, using a primer can be extremely beneficial for your skin and the longevity of your makeup. And when the end result is lasting perfection, you can surely make time to prime.

A primer creates an even canvas for your skin, allowing your base- whether it is powder or liquid- to glide flawlessly on the skin. Any uneven areas that you may have on your face, such as dry skin, fine lines, oily patches or acne, is more likely to be covered by your foundation if you have prepped with a primer.

For the perfect primer try INIKA’s Pure Primer. Firstly it’s all natural, organic, vegan and halal with scrumptious ingredients like aloe vera, macadamia oil and shea butter.

Secondly it keeps the skin hydrated without being oily, leaving you with nourished, healthy skin. The best thing about using the INIKA primer is that it works as a skin treatment as well as a cosmetic, it uses all natural ingredients to truly feed the skin.

Bikram Yoga

As someone who regards physical activity as the 20-metre walk from my office to the café, starting bikram yoga was definitely jumping into the deep end.

On the advice of my sister in law, who had bravely stuck out all her sessions, I focused on my breathing as I entered the 38-degree room. I got my zen on as a relaxed into the savasana (total relaxation pose). However was shortly startled by the bright fluorescent lights igniting and my Romanian teacher, in the essence of an auctioneer, crowding the room with strict instructions.

Five minutes later and I felt like a dehydrated grape-turn-sultana-I was beyond breaking a sweat. I contorted my body into the strangest shapes imaginable but still looked like a tangled coat hanger next to the more experienced ‘yoginis’.

45 minutes later and only halfway through the session, I started to honestly believe I was going to die.

Finally, one hour in, we started the floor poses. My throbbing head felt slightly better closer to ground level and surprisingly I could feel my body stretching further than previously imagined.

The final savasana, which ended the class, flooded me with a wave of relief and exhaustion. I HAD SURVIVED (without passing out or throwing up).

For the rest of the day I felt wonderful, not even a double shot capp could have given me this much energy and concentration.

I raved about it to all my friends and even coaxed some of them into signing up. To read more about the benefits of bikram yoga click here.
