Shea Butter

Shea butter, also known as karite butter, is a cream-colored fatty substance made from the nuts of karite nut trees (also called Mangifolia trees) that grow in the savannah regions of West and Central Africa. Karite trees, or shea trees, are not cultivated. They grow only in the wild, and can take up to 50 years to mature (they live up to 300 years!). In most parts of West Africa, destruction of the shea tree is prohibited because this little nut provides a valuable source of food, medicine, and income for the population. In fact, shea butter is sometimes referred to as “women’s gold” in Africa, because so many women are employed in the production of shea butter.

Why is shea butter in such demand? Western countries are just beginning to recognize the considerable health and beauty benefits of shea butter, something Africans have known for thousands of years. Shea butter has been used to help heal burns, sores, scars, dermatitis, psoriasis, dandruff, and stretch marks. It may also help diminish wrinkles by moisturizing the skin, promoting cell renewal, and increasing circulation. Shea butter also contains cinnamic acid, a substance that helps protect the skin from harmful UV rays.

Some facts on Macadamia Oil which Inika uses in many of our products.

Macadamia integrifolia seed oil is a plant-derived (Botanical) ingredient, cold pressed from the nuts of Australian macadamia trees. The oil has a high anti-oxidant cont...ent and deep skin penetrating properties, which make it ideal for dry or ageing skin. Macadamia oil is very gentle and is absorbed rapidly into the skin, giving the product a silky luxurious feel.

Macadamia Oil has a unique compatibility with the human skin. The oil, obtained from the nuts of the Australian macadamia tree, contains a high concentration of palmitoleic acid, which is very similar to the sebum of human skin. No other known plant oil has a similar composition.

Today we thought we would share an answer to a great question we received about Titanium Dioxide, so thought we would share!

There have recently been alarming reports which showed that 8/10 high-end cosmetic brands contain some form of nanoparticles in their concealers and foundations. Nanoparticles are particles that have been fragmented to sizes below 100 nanometers...; they are often used in ...sunscreens and mineral makeup products. Nanoparticles can enter the bloodstream and body easily and rapidly and is of particular concern with certain ingredients such as Titanium Dioxide. There are two types of Titanium Dioxide: Micronized (which is nano) and NON micronized (which is not nano).

INIKA does NOT use nano sized or Micronized Titanium Dioxide. To further set your mind at rest, our non-nano sized Titanium Dioxide is uncoated and free of silicone or dimethicone (silicone derived emollients) which coat the skin, trapping anything beneath it while inhibiting the skin’s natural ability to breathe.INIKA’s Titanium Dioxide is considered fine with the particles between 1 and 2 microns. A nano or ultra fine particle measures less than 0.1 microns (100 nanometers); our ingredients are well above the nanoparticle threshold and cannot under any circumstances penetrate the skin.
With so many cosmetics available and no mandatory requirement to include nanoparticles on the label, consumers are effectively denied the right to make informed choices. There is also no obligation for manufacturers to provide current safety data, so it is very much less to the consumer and responsible and ethical cosmetic companies to ensure that we are not sacrificing our health and wellbeing for beauty. To our knowledge we are the ONLY mineral cosmetics company that take the stance that we do on titanium.

There are so many simple and easy ways to hydrate your skin and it will cost you little to nothing at all. I want to tell you about a few ways to keep your skin hydrated and healthy.

1. Always drink plenty of water. There is no other substitutes that could replace water. Water is the best thing for all of us and especially our skin. Also load up on your Omega-3s fatty acids found in foods.

2. Avoid Soft drinks and sugary drink products. These products are simply bad for you and your skin and it de-hydrates your skin. You want to hydrate you skin not de-hydrate it.

3. Use aloe vera. It is wonderful for treating dry skin. It also can be used with other home care treatments for dry skin.

4. Always use bath products that are soap-free. Use products that contain moisturizers. Massage these creams deeply so that the skin can absorb the moisture into it.

5. Bathing. There is nothing like a long hot bath after a long hard day at work. A long bath can sometimes be more damaging to the skin than a short bath because it strips us of our natural body oils. Causing our skin to dry out. Try a warm bath instead of a hot bath. The warm bath actually opens up the pores. Also limit the time that you stay in the bath.

6. Moisturize. At last but not least always use a good moisturizer. Depending on your skin type be sure that the moisturizer is something that is going to nourish the skin and provide you with good results. By moisturizing daily is the best way to hydrate your skin.

Start with the inside and work your way outward. Hydrate your skin and replenish your skin to keep it healthy and beautiful.

Facials treatments are wonderful ways for hydrating your skin. They are especially helpful in replenishing dry skin. The exfoliating treatment sheds off the dead skin and cells. It gets deep down under the layer of skin and overturn cells.

If you cannot afford the facial treatments use a facial mask regularly. They work just as well. Plain yogurts works wonders

No to  leather or fur. Is the motto of Stella McCartney. This young and talented British designer, fashion does not agree with animal sacrifice.  As a Little girl, she dreamed of being stylist: She sewed her first jacket 12 years! By partnering with the giants of fashion, Stella McCartney has been exporting its values, which she has always put on materials and natural products, as evidenced by its range of cosmetics including CARE. Hardened vegetarian, she does not see the luxury in the same way as his colleagues, because it makes it accessible to as many people but also because luxury is not always where you expect it. Being fashionable is above all move with the times, or the current trend is to protect the environment and biodiversity to the slaughter of rabbits and chinchillas. Stella McCartney aspires to sublime balance between man and nature, which has been awarded many prizes. She was even elected creative "green" this year in New York in 2008. The stylist takes this notoriety to get messages.

In the collections of bio

The stylist makes maximum use of organic materials in its collections. She wants to eventually all its collections are 100% organic."It may be desirable, to please and seduce a woman while remaining natural" proclaims the designer in 2008. For this reason, Stella McCartney launched a lingerie line bioethics, glamorous and sexy! Thus, when a customer orders a product on the online shop of Miss McCartney, it may choose to offset the greenhouse gases associated with home delivery for $ 3 more! The sum is paid in full at the Carbon Neutral Company.

THE SUN !!

The sun is responsible for many signs of aging, and protecting your face from its rays helps keep your skin looking younger.  That doesn't mean you need to wear a heavy beach sunscreen every day — the right cosmetics can also protect your skin.

Protecting your skin from the sun is one of the most important things you can do to keep your skin looking younger, longer.  But it doesn't mean you have to slop heavy, sticky sunscreen on your face every morning.  You can get excellent day-to-day sun protection from your cosmetics.

Photoaging is caused by lifetime sun exposure — and that's not just the few days you spend at the beach every summer.  Walking  your dog, driving to work, and sitting in front of a sunny window are all examples of the type of sun exposure that you might not think of protecting yourself against — but over the years they can add up to wrinkling, leathering and other signs of aging, as well as skin cancer.

For this everyday exposure, cosmetics with the proper ingredients, applied the right way, can protect your skin.

Tofu is obtained by coagulation of “soy milk” followed by pressing lumps obtained. Pressing, we obtain yellow liquid “whey”, containing soluble proteins, minerals and vitamins.

Tofu contains ten times more calcium than meat.

On the same surface, can be grown 25 times soy than meat.

An acre for beef feeds one person for 77 days. One acre of soybeans fed a 2.224 days.

Recipe I choose to eat tofu:

Mousse Pie Chocolate Tofu

Preparation time: 20 min

Cooking time: 20 min

- 2 tablespoons of vanilla sugar

- 1 pinch of salt

- Water

Filling:

- 250 g tofu

- 200 g cooking chocolate to about 60% cocoa

- 4 eggs

Preparation:

- Prepare your pastry by mixing flour, butter, slightly softened to room temperature, 2 tablespoons of vanilla sugar and a pinch of salt. Add water until soft dough.

- Grease and flour a pie plate.

- Roll out your dough-y

- Put it in the refrigerator for ½ hour, which will prevent the dough to shrink during cooking.

- Cover with greaseproof paper and beans clay.

- Bake the pastry in white at 200 C

- Meanwile, mix tofu.

- Melt your chocolate in a bain-Marie.

- Add a little water depending on the consistency of chocolate.
